Our Foundation students are based in the main building, where they enjoy a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
The Foundation teaching team for 2026 is Mrs. Sheridan Davies, Mrs. Maree O’Dwyer, and Mrs. Phoebe Malseed, who are excited to guide and support each child as they begin their school journey.
We are proud to provide a nurturing and engaging learning environment where every child is known, valued, and supported to thrive.
Foundation is a special and significant year, marking the beginning of a child’s formal schooling journey. During this important stage, students develop a powerful sense of themselves as learners while building essential skills, positive learning attitudes and foundational understandings that support future success at school.
Literacy and Numeracy are at the heart of learning at our school. Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, alongside Numeracy, are carefully planned and differentiated within each classroom to meet the individual needs of every student, ensuring all children are supported to experience success.
Alongside Literacy and Numeracy, we place a strong emphasis on developing the whole child. Students are supported to build social and interpersonal skills, develop problem-solving strategies, show resilience when facing new challenges, and learn how to confidently bounce back from setbacks.
We know that parents and carers are a child’s first and most important teachers! This is why working in partnerships with families and the community is so important to us. By sharing, supporting, and learning together, we have a positive and caring environment where every child can grow in confidence, feel supported, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Specialists
Specialist classes are held each week and include The Arts, Japanese language, STEM, Library and Physical Education.
These specialist programs enrich learning and help every child grow academically, socially, and personally.
Developmental Curriculum
Our Developmental Curriculum adds an extra layer to learning by giving students time and space to explore, wonder and follow their curiosity. Through hands on inquiry-based learning, students are encouraged to investigate topics and experiences which interest them. This approach helps students build confidence and communication skills as they proudly share their ideas, discoveries and creations with classmates.
School Resources
Our students are encouraged to explore and extend their learning both at school and at home using a wide range of engaging educational resources. Online platforms like Mathletics, Essential Assessment, Study Ladder, Reading Eggs, and Sunshine Online bring learning to life, offering interactive, fun, and personalised experiences that complement classroom teaching. We also have a wide range of home reading materials which support children with developing their literacy skills.
Perceptual Motor Program (PMP)
Our Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) gets students moving, exploring and having fun while developing their physical coordination, fine and gross motor skills. Held weekly, these engaging activities also boost learning readiness, helping children feel confident and prepared to tackle new challenges in the classroom.
Community Involvement
We love making families a part of school life! At our school, parents, carers and grandparents invited to join in and celebrate the learning journey. From Family Fun Nights to informative Parent Information Evenings and cultural celebrations, there are so many opportunities to be involved. Not forgetting the particularly important 100 days of school celebrations!
Buddies Program
Our Buddy Program fosters meaningful connections between students across different year levels. Foundation students are paired with Grade 5 buddies who provide guidance, support, and companionship during classroom activities, recess, lunch and cross age activities.
This program promotes social development, collaborative skills, and a strong sense of community, allowing students to learn from one another while building lasting, positive friendships across the school.
SEAL/Respectful Relationships/The Resilience Project/Berry Street Educational Model
We support students to grow not just academically, but emotionally and socially too. Programs like Peer Support in Term 1 and our Social Emotional Awareness Learning (SEAL) program give students practical tools to handle all kinds of situations with confidence.
Aligned with Respectful Relationships, The Berry Street Educational Model, and The Resilience Project, these initiatives teach strategies like ‘Pause, Plan, and Proceed, helping students make thoughtful choices, solve problems, and bounce back from challenges — building resilience, empathy, and strong relationships along the way.
