At Bell Park Primary School, our STEM program engages students in hands-on learning experiences that foster curiosity and inquiry. In Science, students participate in guided investigations where they observe, question, and describe changes in the world around them. Using their senses, they explore movement, materials, and energy, making predictions and recording their findings through discussions, drawings, and simple data collection.
Technology is an integral part of STEM, where students develop skills in coding, 3D design, and digital creativity. They learn to use coding programs to create animations, games, and interactive projects, while 3D design introduces them to the basics of modelling and problem-solving. Through these activities, students gain confidence in using technology to explore and express their ideas.
In Engineering, students work collaboratively to build and design structures, machines, and prototypes. They develop problem-solving skills as they experiment with different materials and construction methods. Teamwork plays a key role, encouraging students to share ideas, test solutions, and refine their designs to achieve the best outcomes.
Mathematics is embedded throughout STEM, particularly in Science Inquiry Skills. Students use numeracy to measure, collect, and interpret data, applying practical maths concepts to real-world investigations. Whether estimating distances, recording temperatures, or analysing results, they develop a deeper understanding of how numbers help explain patterns and relationships in the world around them.
